Canastra Fishing Co.

Stable, transparent sourcing from the nation’s top fishing port

The commercial seafood supplier connecting retailers with real American fish

From our home on the docks of New Bedford—the heart of America’s fishing heritage—Canastra Fishing Co. brings tradition and trust to modern seafood supply.

We’re a vertically integrated U.S. commercial seafood supplier, connecting retailers with consistent, traceable, American-caught seafood sourced directly from our own fleet.

From dock to distribution, our all-American operation delivers quality you can count on, with the stability and freshness your customers expect.

American-caught seafood from our fleet

We own and operate our fleet from New Bedford, the nation’s highest-value fishing port. Eleven U.S.-flagged vessels harvest, land, and deliver products that are full of character and under our control.

Every step is recorded: vessel logs, compliance paperwork, and chain-of-custody documentation accompany each load to the buyer.

We follow NOAA directives, MSC-aligned practices, and industry-standard improvement frameworks (including FIPs) that protect long-term stock health and build retail confidence. Your teams face constant customer questions about sustainability, and our documentation gives them clear, science-based answers rather than vague claims.

Why retail buyers choose Canastra Fishing Co.

Canastra Fishing Co. grew from fishermen’s hard work and community resolve. That history shapes how we trade and how we price.

We eliminate middlemen, preserving margin and control for our partners. You get direct access to products and people who know the waters and the catch.

What you can expect from us:

Our fleet, our products, our people

New Bedford fisherman and his family

Our fleet keeps dozens of New Bedford fishing families working year-round—fishermen and women who grew up on these docks. They run gear, process products, and pack immediately to preserve texture and taste.

Our current product offering includes Acadian redfish, haddock, pollock, flounder, and a broad mix of New England groundfish supported by one of the largest quotas on the East Coast, along with premium domestic scallops.

These species support price stability, availability, and sustainable practices that retailers can communicate directly to their customers.

Consistency that protects your supply chain

Right now, the U.S. imports around 70–80% of its seafood. According to NOAA data, those costs added up to approximately $2.4 billion in April 2025, increasing tariff payments from $23.5 million to around $85.4 million—a 263% increase.

Imported seafood can bring delays, variable quality, and sudden tariff costs. Our domestic model removes those variables for your supply chain.

We understand how important consistency in price and product is to you. Buying from Canastra Fishing Co. means documented landed volume and predictable pricing you can count on, protecting seasonal programs and large contracts.

“Retail and institutional buyers work with us because we stay proactive. When supply shifts, we present alternatives before problems land on your shelves.”
